Taking Spain all in one turn is a lot of planning and the longer your forces are out of action, the more money they cost. It actually seemed a little easier and more hassle-free. My most recent campaign, I invaded France before Spain to mix things up. You can quickly eliminate a major enemy and free up colonies in America, as well as trap France. Often, it is possible to take every Spanish territory in one turn. Sometimes I use the Blitzkreig strategy against certain enemies, and Spain is typically the best example. From Italy, I have the ability to invade France from two directions, and catch their forces in a pincer movement. Also, I like to capture Sardinia and Naples from the Spanish, as well as Central Italy, Venice, Milan, Genoa, and Corsica, so long as I don't run afoul of any allies, namely Austria in this case. Often, I invade India or the Americas and take complete control over one of those theatres. If you control the seas, you have the option of where and when you invade, and your enemies don't even have the option of invading you! This is where the game becomes more varied. So you lose a couple colonies, but you control the trade theatres, and THAT's where Britain makes its money.Ģ) Because of British naval potential, you are given more options for invasion points. If you can quickly build a fleet that can easily take on France's and Spain's fleets at the same time, you are ready for any war with them. As Britain, you are in prime position to build the most powerful fleet in Europe. You can lose some serious trade, not to mention the ability to invade your enemies' island territories or colonies. This may not be true for Prussia, Austria, Poland-Lithuania, or early-game Russia, but in the late-game outset, if you don't have a fleet, your enemies will ensure they use your lack thereof to their full advantage. Without a formidable fleet you cannot invade at will, trade at will, or defend your coastal provinces effectively. In E:TW, if you fail to build a formidable fleet, your enemies will gobble you up and force you into bankruptcy. Fleets were simply a means of getting around quicker, not necessarily a way of winning the game. Great Britain is my favorite, hands down.ġ) All other TW games have been about land dominance. I also very much like employing melee infantry, even the musellims can pack quite a punch, when used correctly. I'm not very good, at this point, at commanding either, particularly skirmishers so it has been a learning experience and great fun. You have to use very different tactics than the European factions, relying on your artillery and skirmishers (even more with the release of the DLC, which gave us an even greater range of skirmisher options). Besides, I like to keep my protectorates so you've got to be able to spare some troops to help out the Crimean Khanate (against Russia and Poland) and Barbary States (vs. You have to develop your economy and nurture some diplomatic relationships to be able to support a military large enough to protect it all. You have such a large area to defend, and your troops are inferior compared to the European factions. I haven't played the GC for all the major factions, yet but I've gotten stuck on the Ottoman Campaign.
